Outputs: The main outputs are
1) Manufacturing Digital Transformation Course with selected enterprises and course participants (especially factory managers, factory system integrators (SIs), engineers and enterprise executive directors) from APEC economies are expected to attend
Thai local enterprises and system integrators that will be involved in this project will mostly come from auto-part or food and beverage sectors. These enterprises will be selected among enterprises that have been assessed with “Thailand I4.0 Index”, funded by Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES).
The Course is going to start with an online Kick-off Meeting to convene selected enterprises and course participants to overview the project and outline the course.
The Course is composed of the following components (56 hours spanning over 3 months) which will be developed and conducted by the contractor via on-line (Webex meeting platform) and on-site (at the enterprise’s facility).
a) Introduction to Industrial maturity Index towards industry 4.0 (on-line 4-hour lecture) delivered in March 2023.
b) Understanding concepts of digital transformation and business model innovation (on-line 4-hour lecture) delivered in March 2023.
c) Linking business strategies with topline/bottom-line improvement (on-line 4-hour lecture) delivered in March 2023.
d) Designing business models to leverage on digital technologies (on-line 4-hour lecture) delivered in March 2023.
e) Analyzing the current activity landscape and system architecture (on-site 4-hour lecture and 4-hour practice) delivered in April 2023.
f) Identifying hotspots and transformation areas (on-site 4-hour lecture and 4-hour practice) delivered in April 2023.
g) Benchmarking with digital readiness/maturity (on-site 4-hour lecture and 4-hour practice) delivered in April 2023.
h) Generating initiatives, future activity landscape and smart system architecture (on-site 4-hour lecture and 4-hour practice) delivered in May 2023.
i) Developing an action plan for digital transformation and performance tracker (on-site 4-hour lecture and 4-hour practice) delivered in May 2023.
At least 10 enterprises will be expected to benefit from this course, and the roadmap, as well as results from the course, will be brought to present and discuss in the Two-Day Workshop.
2) Two-Day Workshop in Bangkok, Thailand with at least 40 participants from APEC economies, including speakers/ experts, contractor, policymakers, government-industry promotion and regulatory agencies, representatives from manufacturing, industry and private sectors, local enterprises (factories and system integrators from both men and women-owned enterprises), technical staff, are expected to attend. Tentative Workshop Agenda is shown below.
Day 1
1. Opening Ceremony and Group Photo (20 minutes)
2. Success Journey and Best Practices of Digital Transformation sharing by APEC member economy speakers/ experts (20 minutes per person)
3. Overview and Results of Manufacturing Digital Transformation Course by contractor (120 minutes)
4. Q&A Session (60 minutes)
5. Coffee Breaks (20 minutes in both morning and afternoon) and Lunch Break (60 minutes)
Day 2
1. Small Group Brainstorming on Digital Transformation Policy Recommendations and Presentation Preparation (90 minutes)
2. Presentation of each group (15 minutes per group)
3. Discussion and Q&A Session (60 minutes)
4. Course Experiences Sharing by participating enterprises (45 minutes)
5. Summary and Closing Session (15 minutes)
6. Coffee Breaks (20 minutes in both morning and afternoon) and Lunch Break (60 minutes)
3) The Project Summary Report, 20-30 pages, comprises achievements of industrial digital transformation. The Report will include results from the Manufacturing Digital Transformation Course, Implementation Report from contractor on the Manufacturing Digital Transformation Course, and result from Two-Day Workshop, along with policy recommendations, case studies, success stories, lessons learned, and best practices from developed economies.
Outcomes: Increase knowledge and awareness of industry best practices and understandings on Industry 4.0 by at least 40+40 participants who attend the Manufacturing Digital Transformation Course and Two-Day Workshop. The workshop participants will learn examples of success cases or best practices from each developed economy and they can share knowledge in their most experienced or expertise pathways, including the latest economies’ industry roadmaps, current situations as well as experiences related to the development of their industries. A summary of the Course will be provided to the participants as information to share with their economies, and it is expected to be used as a means for encouraging their governments or other relevant authorities to develop their industries in their own economies’ contexts. Further, the reports from the Course and Workshop are planned to be published in the Project Summary Report as APEC publications.
Increase knowledge of the successful implementation of Industry 4.0 transformation for participating enterprises and course participants in many perspectives towards production technology, economics, human resource development, product life cycle and marketing. A completed transformation report of the enterprise will be presented to their executive levels for use of their project plannings in various perspectives, including financial, manpower and timeframe. Regarding the aforementioned, Industry 4.0 maturity levels of the enterprise will be assessed with Industry 4.0 maturity assessment tools, such as Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI) or Thailand Industry 4.0 Index. It is expected that the maturity level of the factory will improve. The outcome from the Course can be adapted by other developing economies as well as other economies who are interested to uplift their industries.
Increase of available data to support digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises in APEC economies by transferring knowledge from developed economies to the APEC-benefit content, along with being translated to both international and local-friendly content. Nevertheless, due to the constraints of travel, the project will initially focus on Thai experts, including PO (5), and a local enterprise, with at least 5 technical/engineer staff, who will get hands-on experience implementing the Industry 4.0 transformation process (from creating a roadmap to implementation).
APEC member economies will gain insights and understanding of difficulties and limitations of implementing Industry 4.0 in developing economies. Experiences will be shared during the Two-Day Workshop, so the developing economies can adopt the practices of this showcase in their own way. There will be policy recommendations to developing economies that can be applied and/or adjusted to their economies’ contexts, and the recommendations are expected to be in the Project Summary Report and published as APEC publications as well.
